Now let us discuss about Late marriage in detail with sample horoscopes.
What is late marriage?
In India, 27 or 28 is considered the ideal age for a man to marry a woman 2 or 3 years younger than his age.
Hence, marriage above 28 years is considered late for a man and 25 for a woman.
Marriage is not about tying three knots or putting on a ring. Prolonging the progeny is one of the main purposes of marriage.
So, the couples have to give birth to children and take care of them for the next 25 years until they settle down in their lives.
Major milestones in a child's life are education, work and marriage. Supporting a child's education and marriage costs parents a
lot. After marriage, parents have to support the grandchildren until they can take care of themselves.
If a man gets married at 35 and retires at 58, he may not be able to financially support his child's marriage.
Also, he may not be able to support his grandchildren physically. Old age becomes a hindrance.
Same goes for women. A woman married beyond 30 years may not be able to physically support her daughter during postpartum events.
Based on these socio-economic aspects, the ideal age for marriage is considered to be 27 or 28 for man and 24 or 25 for woman,
although there may be exceptions.

1. Association of Saturn and Mars : If the houses aasociated with marriage are afflicted in a horoscope and Saturn and Mars
are aspecting each other, then the native will get married after 30 years of age i.e. after completion of one round of Saturn.
Below is the horoscope of a woman who got married recently at the age of 31. In this horoscope, the
- 2nd house is afflicted by the placement of debilitated Mars,
- 2nd house is afflicted by the aspect of Ashtamathipathi Saturn,
- 4th house is afflicted by the placement of Badhakathipathi & Marakathipathi Jupiter,
- 7th house is afflicted by the placement of Venus (Kalathra Dosha),
- 12th house is afflicted by the placement of Ketu and aspect of Sun, and
- 5th house is afflicted by aspect of debilitated Mars and Saturn
- Gnanakaraka Jupiter aspects the Mokshakaraka Ketu. As Jupiter Dasha starts in 2058 only, no harm
As all the houses associated with marriage are afflicted, marriage and childbearing were delayed. Her parents searched for a groom
for almost four years. She is now over 30 years old and got married recently.
Interestingly, her marriage is a love marriage. She dated a guy for almost 5 years. But due to Saturn and Mars aspect she married
him only after she turned 30. At the time of marriage, Moon the Lord of 2nd house (Family) Dasha was about to begin.
To be more precise, the native got married in Sun Dasha, Venus Bhukthi.
2. Avayoga Dasha : Planetary periods play an important role in marriage.
If the ruling Planetary (Dasha) Lord and the Ascendant (Lagna) Lord are rival, then the Planetary period is called as Avayoga
Dasha or Unlucky Period. Marriage of the person caught in Avoyaga Dasha period may be delayed or the person may not marry at all.
For instance, consider a person with Cancer Ascendant. The Ascendant Lord is Moon. Saturn, Mercury, Venus and Rahu are rival to
Moon. So, Rahu, Saturn and Mercury Dasha will be Avayoga Dasha for Cancer Ascendant.
We know that Saturn Dasha (19 years) and Mercury Dasha (17 years) come in succession and rules for 36 years.
If Saturn Dasha begins at the age of 23, marriage is likely to be delayed for the next 36 years.
Below is the horoscope of a native who got married at the age of 48.
Dasha balance at the time of birth was Sun Dasha 2y-10m-10d. Rahu Dasha started at the age of 20 and ruled for 18 years
(year 1982 - 1999). In this horoscope,
- 7th house is afflicted by the placement of 7th & 8th house Lord Saturn (Kalathra Dosha)
- 7th house is afflicted by the placement of Moon (Kalathra Dosha)
- 7th house is afflicted by the association of 6th & 8th house Lords Jupiter & Saturn
- Native has Naga Dosha as Rahu is placed in Ascendant
- Rahu Dasha began at the age of 20 and ruled for 18 years from 1982 to 1999
- Rahu Dasha being Avayoga Dasha, the native was not married
- The first half of the Jupiter Dasha was ruled by rival Bhukthis Saturn, Mercury, Ketu and Venus
- So, native got married at the end 2010 when Sun Bhukthi was about to begin
- Sun is the lord of 2nd house which signifies family
Couple of points to be noted here are 1) Mars and Saturn aspecting each other mutually. So, marriage took place above 30 years of
age 2) Avayoga Dasha further delayed the marriage. Hence, native got married at the age 48.

3. Upaya Lagnam : If someone says that marriage is delayed, we can predict the lagna to be Upaya Lagna in his/her horoscope.
We know that the 7th house Lord or Kalathra Sthanathipathi is the primary Lord for marriage. We also know that
for Upaya Lagnam, the 7th house Lord is Badhakathipathi and also Marakathipathi. Also, it has Kendradipathya Dosha (Quadrant
Lordship).
Hence, marriage will be delayed for Upaya Lagna due to Kalathra Sthanathipathi itself being Badhakathipathi & Marakathipathi and
having Kendradipathya Dosha.

Although most of the houses associated with marriage are afflicted, the primary cause of delay in marriage is Upaya Lagna and
