Transit of Jupiter

Jupiter, the natural benefic, takes one year to transit from one Zodiac sign (Rasi) to another. So, Jupiter takes 12 years to complete the zodiac circle.

We know that Jupiter has 3 aspects viz., the 5th house, the 7th house and the 9th house aspect. The aspect of Transit Jupiter (Gochara Guru) is always beneficial. This is one of the main factors in starting a marriage. It is explained in Marriage Yoga

Jupiter pronounces best results when transiting in 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th houses from Moon sign. However, when transiting in 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th house from the Moon sign, the pronounced result will not be very favorable.

Now, let's take an example to understand it. Consider someone born under the sign of Aquarius, which means the Moon will be in Aquarius in the horoscope.

When Jupiter transits in

1. Aquarius or 1st house, it is known as Janma Guru
2. Pisces or 2nd house, it is known as Kudumba Guru
3. Aries or 3rd house, it is known as Dhairya Guru
4. Taurus or 4th house, it is known as Sukhasthana Guru
5. Gemini or 5th house, it is known as Purva Punya Guru
6. Cancer or 6th house, it is known as Runa Roga Shathru Guru
7. Leo or 7th house, it is known as Kalathra Guru
8. Virgo or 8th house, it is known as Ashtama Guru
9. Libra or 9th house, it is known as Bhagya Guru
10. Scorpio or 10th house, it is known as Karma sthana Guru
11. Sagittarius or 11th house, it is known as Labha Guru
12. Capricorn or 12th house, it is known as Viraya Guru

Let us now go through each type of Transit Jupiter (Gochara Guru) in detail.

Janma Guru : When Jupiter transits in 1st house from the moon sign (Janma Rasi), it is known as Janma Guru. From here, Jupiter aspect falls on 5th, 7th and 9th house. So, obviously the significances or Karakathva of these houses viz., Offspring (puthra), Life / Business partner (Kalathra) and father, ancestral property, religious work etc., (Bhagya) will be very favourable to the native.

However, the native will experience difficulty in making decisions. Also, native may suffer embarrassment due to Ego problem or over commitment or over expectation or getting involved in arguments. "Talk a little, do a little" would be a good remedy.

Kudumba Guru : When Jupiter transits in 2nd house from the moon sign (Kudumba sthanam), it is known as Kudumba Guru. From here, Jupiter aspect falls on 6th, 8th and 10th house. The significances of these houses viz., Debt, Disease and Enemy (6th house), Judicial matters (Ashtama), Job / business related matters (Karma, 10th house) will be in favour of the native.

During this time, the native will get relief from debt problem, health problems especially back / abdominal pain and uterine pain. Also, long pending judicial cases will be resolved. Employees will get the long awaited promotion. This is a good time to change jobs or start a new business.

Jupiter will expand the significances of the 2nd house which is Income, Family and speech. So, there will be sudden increase in income. Family expansion can occur through marriage or childbirth. People will start following the native because everything the native says will happen.

Dhairya Guru : When Jupiter transits in 3rd house from the natal moon, it is known as Dhairya Guru. From here, Jupiter aspect falls on 7th, 9th and 11th house.

During this time, obstacles in marriage / inheriting property will be removed and there will be good profit in business / investment. Some may travel or do business in abroad. Short distance travel is also possible.

Relationship with Elder siblings will be very good as 11th signifies elder siblings. Siblings here means not only the brothers and sisters of the native but also the brothers and sisters of the Parents and parents-in-laws.

As Jupiter transits in the 3rd house which signifies younger siblings, relationship with younger siblings may deteriorate. For those who are having an extra marital relationship, the relationship with the 2nd wife may deteriorate.

The native will hesitate in taking bold decisions and hence miss out on good opportunities. Time to be careful with financial matters.

Sukha sthana Guru : When Jupiter transits in 4th house from the natal moon, it is known as Sukha sthana Guru. From here, Jupiter aspect falls on 8th, 10th and 12th house.

During this time, the benefic aspect of Jupiter will be adverse. This will cause discomfort to the native. Any judicial proceedings against the native shall be settled against the native. Bail may be denied and the native may happen to face jail time. Native should be careful with competitors in business/work. Some may have to stay away from spouse / family.

It is said that Yudhishthira was exiled (vanavasam) when Jupiter transited in 4th house.

Relationship with mother may deteriorate and Mother's health may cause concern to the native as 4th house signifies mother. Also, the intention to purchase properties (land / house / flat / vehicle etc.) may be delayed or hindered. Some may meet with road accident.

During this time, the native may engage in work related to temple construction and go Punya Yatra. This is the right time to start a new business and venture into the stock market as there will be good returns on investment. Academic performance will be better for students. 6th house signifies Runa, Roga, Shathru meaning Debt, Diseases and Enemy respectively. As mentioned earlier, Jupiter will tend to fully activate these significances. During this time, the native may face debt and health problems. Some suffer from severe back pain and some may develop heart problems.

Enemies will gain strength. There will be problems due to competitors in business / work. Politicians will be affected by rivals. Students, especially those in high school or college, can suffer from memory loss.

The native should stay away from lucrative activities like stock speculation, online games, etc., as they may end up in financial loss and debt.

Kalathra Guru : When Jupiter transits in 7th house from the natal moon, it is known as Kalathra Guru. From here, Jupiter aspect falls on 11th, 1st and 3rd house.

During this time, the marriage plan of the native will be fulfilled. Relationship with spouse, children, colleagues, friends and business partner will be very cordial. Jupiter will bring happiness in the family through birth of child. Some will enjoy the company of new friends / relations.

Overall, it will be very good time for the native.

As the 8th house is a malefic house, the result pronounced during this time will not favor the native. Judgment on divorce, inheritance of property etc. will not be favourable.

A lot of travel is possible. Some may go abroad for study or business purpose. Some people will incur medical expenses due to their own or elderly family members' health.

Some may lose their jobs during this period. Native should be careful while driving. Some may go to jail temporarily.

Bhagya Guru : When Jupiter transits in 9th house from the natal moon, it is known as Ashtama Guru. From here, Jupiter aspect falls on 1st, 3rd and 5th house.

All the trines viz., 1st, 5th and 9th house are associated as Jupiter transits the 9th house. Hence, it will the best period for the native. Financial status, career growth, business development, study / job in abroad, relocating to abroad, etc., will be at its best.

Those who lost their jobs during Ashtama Guru will now get good jobs. Some will engage in temple / religious activities, some will go on pilgrimage.

A good time to make a bold decision.

10th house is one of the houses that give adverse results when Jupiter transits. It is said that Lord Shiva himself happened to ask for alms.

Basically, 10th house primary significances like work, business, position and respect / prestige / dignity will be affected during this time.

Employees may lose their jobs, and those in power may lose their positions. There may be conflicts with superiors and family members. Reputation will be affected by their own actions or by the actions of their family members.

Students will lose marks / grade and be humiliated. For entrepreneurs, this is not a good time to start a new business or expand an existing one.

Overall this is not a good time for the native and it is time to be submissive with everyone.

Labha Guru : When Jupiter transits in 11th house from the natal moon, it is known as Labha Guru. From here, Jupiter aspect falls on 3rd, 5th and 7th house.

Those who have suffered a lot when Jupiter transited in 10th house will feel rejuvenated now as Jupiter will pronounce favourable results when it transits in 11th house. Profit in business, promotion, salary increase etc. can be expected during this period. Good time to invest in stocks, start a business and expand existing ones.

It will be a very good period for Artists, Musicians, Singers, Dancers etc.,. Love affairs will be favorable. Long-standing wishes will be fulfilled. Marriage will take place during this period.

Viraya Guru : When Jupiter transits in 12th house from the natal moon, it is known as Viraya Guru. From here, Jupiter aspect falls on 4th, 6th and 8th house.

12th house signifies Expenditure, Travel, Sleep, Sexual pleasure and Moksha (Salvation). The expenditures, therefore, will be for good. Some will take loans to buy property like house, land, vehicle, jewels etc. However, native should be careful in investing in the business.

Some will travel abroad for pleasure. Intuition to learn occult knowledge will increase. Interest in spirituality and religious work will increase, some will go on pilgrimage.

The various types of Gochara Guru effect discussed above are generic. Depending on the planetary positions, strength of planets, Dasa Bhukti at that time and type of Transit saturn, the effect will vary.

For example, the result pronounced by the Jupiter during Ashtama Guru or Janma Guru may become worse if Jupiter happens to be functionally malefic like Ashtamathipathi, 8th and 11th house Lord, 3rd and 7th house Lord, Badhakathipathi etc.,. If the ruling Dasha Bhukthi (Planetary Period) is also Jupiter during this period, then result will be much worse.

Similarly, if Jupiter is Ascendant or Trine Lord or functional benefic and well placed in the natal chart, then the native will be protected from adverse effects pronounced by Transit Jupiter.

Hence, the result prounced by Transit Jupiter should be judged holistically.
