Dual House Lordship
We know that except Sun and Moon, all other Planets viz., Mars, Venus,
Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn rule two houses.
This means for any given Ascendant, these 5 planets will be the
lord of two houses simultaneously.
So, it will be a challenge to forecast the result pronounced by these 5 planets, especially when one of the houses is Auspicious
and another is inauspicious or both of them are inauspicious houses.
For easy of understanding, the rules mentioned by Parashara Rishi in his Hora Shastra, Chapter 35, Verses 2 to 7 have been
rearranged into various scenarios as shown below.

With Dual House Ownership, the various possible scenarios can be
- None of the houses are Quadrant or Trine
- One of the houses is Quadrant and another one is Trine
- One of the houses is Quadrant and another one is neither Quadrant nor Trine
- Both the houses are Quadrant
- One of the houses is Trine and another one is not Quadrant
- One of the houses is Ascendant
Scenario 1 : None of the houses are Quadrant or Trine. This means, the planet is Lord of any of these two
houses simultaneously - 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th and 12th.
While the Lords of 3rd, 6th and 11th houses become Malefic to Ascendant, the Lords of 2nd, 8th and 12th houses act based their
association. When a planet becomes the Lord of any of these two houses simultaneously, the result pronounced will be very harmful.
The result will be worst if a planet is Lord of 6th & 11th house simultaneously and the next worst will be when it is Lord of
3rd & 8th. The result pronounced will be less harmful or void when the Planet is placed in one of the houses ruled by it.

For instance, consider Aries Ascendant. And, say Mercury is placed in 2nd house. Mercury is the 3rd & 6th house Lord to Aries Asc.
Now, Mercury will spoil the relationship with younger siblings (3rd represents younger siblings & 6th represents enmity).
The person will have debt, will be sick and have enemies (significances of 6th house).
Also, the person will lose wealth, be poor in education, have problem with family and income (significances of 2nd house).
The person still may be intelligent and good in mathematics because they are the significances of Mercury.
Only the significances of house will get afflicted.
If Mercury is placed either in 3rd house or in 6th house, the result will be less pronounced or void.
Scenario 2 : One of the houses is Quadrant and another one is Trine.
If a planet is the Lord of any two houses and one of the them is a Quadrant and the other is a Trine, then the
Planet becomes Yogi or Yogakaraka or Lucky Planet for that Ascendant.
For Taurus Ascendant, Saturn is the Yogi (9th and 10th house Lord)
For Cancer Ascendant, Mars is the Yogi (5th and 10th house Lord)
For Leo Ascendant, Mars is the Yogi (4th and 9th house Lord)
For Libra Ascendant, Saturn is the Yogi (4th and 5th house Lord)
For Capricorn Ascendant, Venus is the Yogi (5th and 10th house Lord)
For Aquarius Ascendant, Venus is the Yogi (4th and 9th house Lord)
In all the above cases, when the Yogi is posited in Quadrant, the Kendrathipathya Dosha will not be activated.
Instead the Dosha will get cancelled and the Planet will become Benefic and will produce good result because the planet is Trine Lord too.

If we look closely at the above, we will notice that the Ascendant Lord and the Yogakaraka Planet always belong to the same group
and that is why they bestow the best results upon the native.
The Yogi will always pronounce the best result upon the native, as long as the Yogakaraka Planet is well placed and not afflicted
by Malefic planet(s).
Scenario 3 : One of the houses is Quadrant and the other one is neither Quadrant or Trine
When a planet is the Lord of any two houses and one of them is Quadrant and the other one is either 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th or 12th
house, then Kendrathipathya Dosha will be activated, if the planet is posited in Quadrant.
Consider Capricorn Ascendant. Mars is the 4th and 11th house Lord. As Mars is Lord of Quadrant, Kendrathipathya Dosha will be
activated if Mars is posited in Quadrant. However, Mars being Malefic, it will not be able to produce inauspicious result.
In other words, the result pronounced will be neutral.
Now consider Aries Ascendant. Venus is 2nd and 7th house Lord. In this scenario, Kendrathipathya Dosha will be activated,
if Venus is placed in 7th house. But, Venus being Benefic, the result pronounced will be inauspicious.
Hence, the person will have problem with Family (2nd house) and Marital life (7th house) with Venus posited in 7th house.
Scenario 4 : Both the houses are Quadrant
When a planet is the Lord of any two houses and both the houses are Quadrant, then Kendrathipathya Dosha will be activated.
This scenario will be applicable only for Upaya Lagna viz., Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.

For instance, for Gemini Ascendant, Jupiter will be the 7th and the 10th house Lord. Jupiter being Benefic and ruling Quadrants,
Kendrathipathya Dosha will be activated and Jupiter will not be able to produce auspicious result.
Similarly, for Pisces Ascendant, Mercury will be the 4th and the 7th house Lord.
Scenario 5 : One of the houses is Trine and the other one is not Quadrant
When a planet is the Lord of any two houses and one of the houses is Trine and another one is not Quadrant, meaning it is
2nd, 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th or 12th house, then the result pronounced will be more Auspicious than inauspicious.
शुभदाश्च त्रिकोणपाः - The Lord of a Trine will give auspicious results
For instance, for Cancer Ascendant, Jupiter is 6th and 9th house Lord. The result pronounced by Jupiter will be more Auspicious than
inauspicious.
Similarly, for Sagittarius Ascendant, Mars is the 5th and 12th house Lord. Mars will pronounce more Auspicious result than inauspicious.
Scenario 6 : One of the houses is Ascendant
When a planet is the Lord of any two houses, one of which is Ascendant then the pronounced result will be more Auspicious than
inauspicious.
लग्नं केन्द्रत्रिकोणत्वाद् विशेषेण शुभप्रदम् - The Lord of the Ascendant is special benefic because the Ascendant is both a Quadrant and Trine.
Hence, when one of the Lord is Ascendant and the other is even Quadrant or Evil house, the Lord still will not be Malefic.
It will therefore, pronounce auspicious result only.

Some additional inputs in the context of Dual House Ownership
In Dual House Ownership, when one of the houses invovled is Auspicious house, then the Lord of Auspicious house will take precedence over evil house
and suppress the inauspicious effect the evil house.
For instance, for Gemini Ascendant, Saturn is the 8th and 9th house Lord. Saturn will suppress the evil effect of 8th house and bestow
the auspicious result of 9th house.
If one of the houses is Moolatrikona, then it will play more important role than the other house.

For instance, for Gemini Ascendant, Saturn is the 8th (Capricorn) and 9th (Aquarius) house Lord. Aquarius being the Moolatrikona
house, the 9th house Lordship will become primary significance and it will pronounce favorable result.
At the same time, for Aries Ascendant, Saturn is the 10th and 11th house Lord. As 11th house (Aquarius) is the Moolatrikona house of
Saturn, it will predominantly pronounce unfavorable result.
Similarly, for Cancer Ascendant, Saturn is the 7th and 8th house Lord. As 8th house (Aquarius) is the Moolatrikona house of Saturn,
it will pronounce the worst possible result.
For Cancer Ascendant, Jupiter is the 6th and 9th house Lord. In this case, though 6th house is the Moolatrikona house, the 9th House
will take precedence over Moolatrikona as it is Trine and it will pronounce favorable result.
Note : Before forecasting the result, the horoscope must be judged holistically and the strength of the planet and houses
ruled by it simultaneously must be evaluated. Depending upon the association of the Planet with Benefic / Malefic and the houses
ruled by them, the result pronounced will be different.
